Behind the scenes of a 12 layer linoprint
This video contains behind the scenes footage of layering the 12 different colours of hand mixed ink I used to create a reduction linoprint of my favourite beach view in Jersey. I used water based Schmincke printmaking inks, japanese vinyl lino, pfeil carving tools, and 300 gsm somerset satin paper (which is a lovely thick archival cotton paper), to create this print. In a previous stage 1 video, linoprinting multiple colours, I shared how I designed and started the print, whilst this stage 2 video is a start to finish of all the colours involved so you can see how I built up the image. In total this took just over two weeks to carve, ink and press all the layers. As I use the reduction print method, I only used one block of lino for the whole image. This reduction print method of multi-colour images is my favourite, I enjoyed experimenting with test prints and seeing how the colours interact with each other, before adding new layers. I have really tried to build up some perspective, whilst keeping those vibrant bright pops of colour so I can keep the sunny joyful atmosphere.
